Here at Hemp Bakers we are big fans of CBD and chocolate. We always talk about why we love CBD but what about chocolate? Chocolate is more than just a sweet treat! Everyone’s favorite sweet comes with a few more benefits besides tasting delicious!

Chocolate is healthy?

Chocolate comes from the seed of the cacao tree. Cacao is PACKED with antioxidants as well as other vitamins and minerals you need in your diet. To get the most nutrition out of your chocolate, the best rule of the thumb to follow is the darker the chocolate, the better it is for you! When chocolate is darker it usually mean it contains less sugar and a higher cocoa content which makes for more nutritional benefits. Chocolate even has higher antioxidant properties than some of the most popular “superfoods” blueberries and acai berries.

Some of chocolate’s other many benefits will surprise you! Chocolate has been researched to show it’s role in improving heart health. But that’s not all that chocolate is being studied for. Some of the other research being done on chocolate has highlighted it’s relationship with cognitive function. Research studies have shown how consuming chocolate may help improve both your mood and your memory. This could be due to the flavanols that are found in dark chocolate. Other suspected cognitive benefits come from the caffeine that is found in chocolate.

While research on chocolate is always being recorded, it’s important to note that the studies have not finalized that the improvements made in the test subjects’ cognitive health was directly a result of chocolate consumption. However we are looking forward to seeing where research takes us when it comes to the future of our health.

Does all this health information mean that you need to start eating mass amount of chocolate? If we had it our way the answer would be yes but unfortunately that is not the case. In order to receive some of the health benefits of chocolate it comes down to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. When looking for a chocolate snack its best to stick to one or two chocolate items a day, preferably something in the dark chocolate category. As with any sweets they are always best served in moderation and alongside a healthy diet and lifestyle.

Next time you break out a Hemp Bakers cookie or brownie take a second to remember that maybe you’re enjoying more than just the great chocolatey taste.
